Motorola unveils Moto G5 and G5 Plus with Metal Design at MWC 2017

Motorola has finally unveiled the Moto G5 and Moto G5 Plus at MWC 2017. They have the same metal designs with the same two color options. Both smartphones make some significant changes over their predecessors, namely Moto G4 and Moto G4 Plus.

Speaking of specs, the Moto G5 and Moto G5 Plus are different in terms of display and the other specs as well. The Moto G5 sports a 5-inch full HD display, while the Moto G5 Plus comes with a bigger 5.2-inch Full HD display. Their display is topped with Gorilla Glass 3. The Moto G5 packs 2GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage, while the Moto G5 Plus comes with 2GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage. Storage on both smartphones can be expandable up to 256GB via a micro SD card. They don’t have NFC so they cannot support Android Pay. Only Moto G5 Plus supports Motorola’s ultra-fast Turbo charging.

As for processors, the Moto G5 is fueled by a 1.4GHz Snapdragon 430 octa-core processor, while the Moto G5 Plus features a 2.0GHz Snapdragon 625 octa-core one. The Moto G5 is backed by a 2,800mAh battery, while the Moto G5 Plus draws its power from a 3,000mAh battery. Camera-wise, the Moto G5 comes with a 13MP rear camera with f/2.0 aperture and PDAF and the ability to shoot 1080p video at 30fps. The Plus features a 12MP rear one and f/1.7 aperture and PDAF and is capable of shooting 4K 30fps video. Both smartphones have a 5MP f/2.2 front-facing camera with, and ship with Android 7.0 Nougat. The Moto G5 measures in 144.3x73x9.5mm, while the Plus measures in 150.2x74x9.7mm. Both Moto G5 and Moto G5 Plus come with a 3.5mm headphone jack.

Regarding pricing and availability, the Moto G5 won’t be sold in the US, and will be priced at €199 with 2GB RAM/16GB storage. On the contrary, the Moto G5 Plus will be released in the US for $229 with 2GB RAM/32GB storage, and $279 with 3 RAM/32GB storage. The availability info is yet to be announced. The Moto G5 and Moto G5 Plus will be available starting in March.
