The GSMA, a pan-European organization that hosts the annual Mobile World Congress, recently announced the Sony Xperia XZ Premium has won Best New Smartphhone or Connected Mobile Device at MWC 2017 award this year. Sony has launched the Xperia XZ Premium at MWC 2017 along with Xperia XZs, Xperia XA1 and Xperia XA1 Ultra.
The Sony Xperia XZ Premium is the first smartphone in the world to come equipped with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 835 processor. It boasts a 5.5-inch IPS LCD display with 4K resolution and Corning Gorilla Glass 5, and comes in a nice metal-and-glass package. The flagship packs a 4GB of RAM, and 64GB of internal storage that can be expandable up to 256GB via a micro SD card on its hybrid dual-SIM slot.
In the camera department, the Sony Xperia XZ Premium sports an impressive 19MP rear camera with an apeture of 2.0, predictive phase detection and laser autofocus, optical image stabilisation, LED flash, and especially Motion Eye technology for slow motion video in 960 frames per second. The front-facing camera has a 13MP capacity with an apeture of 2.0 lens for better low-light photography. Running on Android Nougat 7.1, the Xperia XZ Premium is backed by a reasonable non-removable Li-Ion 3,230 mAh battery with Quick Charge 3.0 support, and has both IP68 and IP65 rating for water resistance. Connectivity features include Wi-Fi 802.11 ac dual-band, Bluetooth 5.0, GPS with GLONASS, and microUSB v3.1.
The Sony Xperia XZ Premium retains a fingerprint sensor that is integrated into the side-mounted power button, but dependent on the region. Its dimensions are 156 x 77 x 7.9 mm and weighs 195 grams.
According to Sony, the Xperia XZ Premium will be available in two colors, including Luminous Chrome and Deepsea Black. The pricing info is yet to be announced.
