Tips to Add and Listen to Music on Apple Watch


The Apple Watch is packed with built-in apps to control your iPhone’s music. In particular, without a nearby iPhone, you can still listen to music stored on the Watch via Bluetooth headphones. It’s worth noting that, if you use Apple Music, ensure the songs you want to put on your Apple Watch are downloaded to your iPhone before trying to sync them. You can have one music playlist on the Watch at a time.

How to Set Your Music Storage Limit for Apple Watch

Step 1: Launch the Watch app on your iPhone.


Step 2: Tap on Music > Playlist Limit.


Step 3: Once there, you can set your music storage limit based on storage amount or number of songs.


How to Make a Music Playlist

Step 1: Launch the Watch app on your iPhone.

Step 2: Tap on My Music, and then tap on Playlists at the top.

Step 3: Add all the songs you want to put on your Apple Watch to the playlist. Remember you can also add more songs later.


Step 4: Tap on Done.


You can edit or add songs to a playlist you just created by simply following these steps:

Step 1: Launch the Watch app on your iPhone.

Step 2: Tap on My Music, and then tap on Playlists at the top.

Step 3: Look for the playlist you wish to edit and open it.

Step 4: Tap on Edit.


Step 5: Now, you can add songs by tapping on the green circle; and remove a song by tapping on the red circle. If you want to rearrange the playlist, you press the three horizontal lines and drag the songs into the order you want.

Step 6: Tap Done.


How to Sync Your Playlist with Apple Watch

Step 1: Place your Apple Watch on its charger.

Step 2: Be sure to enable Bluetooth on your iPhone by swiping up for Control Center.


Step 3: Launch the Watch app on your iPhone.

Step 4: Tap on Music.


Step 5: Select Synced Playlist.

Step 6: Find and choose the playlist you would like to sync onto your Apple Watch.


Step 7: When a Sync Pending message pops up, your playlist will automatically start syncing.


Step 8: Once the Sync is done, your playlist will be available on Apple Watch. From now on, you can enjoy music on your Apple Watch even when you don’t have your iPhone with you.

How to Connect Bluetooth Headphones to Apple Watch

Because the Apple Watch doesn’t come with a headphone jack, you’ll have to rely on Bluetooth headphones or earbuds.

Step 1: Turn on your headphones and put them in pairing mode.

Step 2: Head to the Settings app on your Apple Watch.


Step 3: Tap on Bluetooth.


Step 4: Choose your headphones under Devices.

How to Listen to Your Playlist on Apple Watch

After syncing your playlist and pairing your headphones with the Apple Watch, you can now listen to your playlist on the Watch without your iPhone.

Step 1: Launch the Music app on your Apple Watch.

Step 2: Now, there is a message that reads Choose a music source to play from. Select the watch icon. If this doesn’t show up, you can access it by firmly pressing the screen, and then choosing Source > Apple Watch.


Step 3: Tap on Playlists.


Step 4: At the top it will say, On My Apple Watch.


Lastly, choose the playlist, tap play and your music should begin instantly.


Note that if you haven’t connected headphones with the Apple Watch yet, you will be required to do so before playing the music.
