Photos for Mac is well received by a number of users thanks to its cool features and performance compared to the sluggish iPhoto that preceded it.

There are a handful of features hidden in the Photos app, notably, the one giving you the ability to create more than one photo library. This way, you will be able to make one for your home photos, work photos, and even personal photos. Not stopping there, each family member can create their own library to indulge themselves in their photos without sharing the same one with others.

Steps to create a new library for Photos for Mac

Step 1: Hold down the Option key on your keyboard.

Step 2: Double-click on the Photos app to bring up the Choose Library window.

Step 3: Here, hit the Create New…button.

Step 4: Enter a name for your library. The name should be something useful to help you remember.

Step 5: Hit the OK button.

It’s worth noting that you cannot move pictures and videos to the new library with just a step from within the Photos app. Instead, you will have to export the content you would like to use in the new library, and then import them back in when you launch the new library.

If you would like to select a different photo library as your default library for Photos, simply go to Preferences, select the General tab, and then click on the Use as System Photo Library button.

Step 3: Click on the name of the library you would like to open.
