tvOS 10.1 Beta 2 rolled for developers; know how to install it

Apple has just rolled out tvOS 10.1 Beta 2 to developers. If your Apple TV is running on a tvOS 10 beta, you simply head to System > Software Updates and download the latest update right away to the TV. If you have been waiting for beta 2 to join tvOS 10.1, read on to get to know how to download and install it with ease.

Before getting started, it’s worth noting that this release is made available only for developers, so you will need to create the developer account. You can do this by heading over to developer.apple.com.

How to install the tvOS 10.1 beta over-the-air (Just update the system software)

Before getting started, you are required to use a USB-C cable to initially pair your Apple TV with your Mac in order to install the tvOS configuration profile.

Step 1: Head to developer.apple.com/download from your Mac.

Step 2: You are prompted to punch in your developer username and password so that you can log in.

Step 3: Next, click on the blue Download button which is to the right of tvOS 10.1 beta configuration profile.

Step 4: Head to the Mac App Store to install the Apple Configurator app.

Step 5: Pair your 4th gen Apple TV with AC power. And at the same time, use a USB-C cable to pair your 4th gen Apple TV with your Mac.

Step 6: On your Mac, open Apple Configurator, and then click on Add Profiles to your Apple TV.

Step 7: You are now asked to add the tvOS 10.1 beta configuration profile you just downloaded earlier. You can also drag and drop the file to the Apple TV icon.

Step 8: After the successful installation of the configuration profile, restart your Apple TV.

Step 9: On your Apple TV, choose Settings > System > Software Update.

Once the TV detects tvOS 10.1, it will automatically download and install it.

How to install the tvOS 10.1 beta over USB-C (Factory resets the Apple TV)

Step 1: Head to developer.apple.com/download from your Mac.

Step 2: You are prompted to punch in your developer username and password so that you can log in.

Step 3: Now, you will need to select the blue Download button to the right of tvOS 10.1 restore image.

Step 4: Next up, you will need to select the blue Download button to the right of Xcode 8, and then install it on your Mac.

Step 5: Pair your 4th gen Apple TV with AC power. And at the same time, use a USB-C cable to pair your 4th gen Apple TV with your Mac.

Step 6: Open iTunes and click on Apple TV when it shows up in iTunes.

Step 7: You need to press and hold the Option key and select Check for Updates.

Step 8: Select the tvOS 10.1 beta you just downloaded.
